NCRA’s primary goal is to promote literacy among educators and within the community. If you are interested in forming a local Literacy Council or “Chapter” of NCRA, here is what our bylaws require:
Contact Membership Director Amanda McCall (amanda.mccall@carteretk12.org) to help you get started.
You will also communicate with your local Area Director for ongoing support through this process.
Consists of 5 or more individuals. (Do not have to be teachers, educators or school/university based)
Create a Mission that will support the NCRA Mission
Be members of NCRA and/or local NCRA council
Hold a minimum of 3 yearly meetings (programs, presentations, community-based literacy activity, etc.)
Participate in Young Authors (if applicable)
Attend the Leadership Institute sponsored by NCRA in June
Designate a contact person but is not required to establish a formal slate of officers while you are a developing council.
A council may be "developing" for up to three years. Once all criteria is met, a developing council moves out of the "developing" phase and becomes a full council.
