About Us

The North Carolina Reading Association is a nonprofit organization that began in 1968 with a mission dedicated to advancing literacy across our state and beyond. We bring together educators, leaders, and advocates to promote reading, writing, and language arts for all learners—from early childhood through adulthood. Through professional development, our annual conference, the Young Authors and Illustrators Project, and strong local partnerships, we support high-quality instruction, celebrate literacy achievements, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.
