NCRA 2010-2011 Young Authors’ Theme:
“That’s a Fact!”
The theme for the 2010-2011 Young Authors’ Project is “That’s a Fact.” Young Authors are encouraged to write a non-fiction piece. Students and Forever Young (Adult) writers can choose to write about a true experience, a content piece, a news article, biography, or autobiography—in prose or poetry form. Let your students experiment – they will surprise you!
Guidelines to follow:
- All entries must be original creations.
- All entries must be typed in Microsoft WORD (not Works) format using the “Times New Roman” font
and ready for publication.
- There should be an original title typed in BOLD, 12 font (only capitalize 1st letter of each word.
- Text of story should be typed in single space, 10 font.
- Author information should follow the story, leaving 2 blank lines only, and be in the following format, 10
font:

Grade
Local Reading Council
- Grades K-1 should have no more than 200 words total.
- Grade 2-8 selections should have no more than 300 words total.
- Grades 9-12 and Forever Young should have no more than 500 words total.
- Only one entry per person may be submitted.
- A completed “Young Author Entry Form” must be taped on the back of each entry.
Artwork may be submitted with a written entry by the same person. (Only send original artwork—no
copies please!)
- Entries for state competition must be postmarked by Friday, December 12, 2010. Therefore, local
councils will collect/judge their entries prior to this date. Let your local council know your local collection
dates as early in the school year as possible! .
-Entries from local councils must be submitted by the local council Young Author Chair/Co-Chair.
The “Council Information” form must accompany entries. Mail local entries with the completed Council
Information form to:
