IRA

Ready for some professional development with a tropical vibe?  This year the IRA Annual Convention jets off to sunny Orlando, Florida, from May 8th through May 11th.  Think palm trees, flowered shirts, and warm sunshine while you drink in this globally recognized literacy event.

Spotlight speakers include former professional coach Tony Dungy and writing partner, wife Lauren;
Oscar-winner and literacy advocate Goldie Hawn; StoryCorps Project founder and host David Isay; and multi-award winning educator/author Sharon Draper.  All this plus hundreds of speakers will be on hand to share the expertise you’ll want to take back to the classroom.

Ready to hit The Big Orange?  Start planning by visiting the convention preview at www.iraconvention.org and get the no-hassle 411 in real time.  Navigate speaker info, register, and search the program by session topic and date.

IRA was founded in 1956 as a nonprofit professional organization for those involved in teaching reading to learners of all ages. Our members are dedicated to promoting high levels of literacy for all by

bulletImproving the quality of reading instruction

bulletDisseminating research and information about reading

bulletEncouraging the lifetime reading habit

These goals are set forth in the Association’s Mission Statement, which also discusses the nature and purposes of the organization.

Whether your interest is research or practice, traditional print-based reading and writing or the “new literacies” of the Internet age, new readers or those acquiring higher level skills, we offer something for you.
